I heard an interesting stat on the radio this morning. Over 50% of US households are not married couples. This is a huge demographic shift that has been sneaking up on us. While there are also about 11 million non-married couples that still leaves a huge number of singles. As the population ages and women outlive men, there are an increasing number of baby boomer females without mates.
According to MetLife Mature Market Institute baby boomer singles are taking care of themselves, living longer into their 80's and see singlehood as an opportunity to define happiness on their own terms. One third of the 82 million boomers are single and they control over 2.1 trillion dollars in buying power!
So there it is, a market to be reckoned with. What are you going to do about it :-) ?
